The Gloster Meteor trainer originated from Air Staff Operational Requirement OR/238 of December 1946 which called for a two seat variant of the single seat Meteor IV.
The prototype trainer made its first flight on the 19th of March 1948 and the first official Meteor T.7 made its maiden flight on the 26th of October 1948. 682 Meteor T.7 aircraft were built with orders coming not only from the RAF and Royal Navy but also from a number of overseas nations. Production finally ceased in 1954.
